Description
Reporting to Senior Leadership, the Director of Human Resources leads the evaluation and enhancement of human resource operations while developing and implementing policies, programs, and procedures related to workforce planning, recruitment, training and development, and collective bargaining. With a focus on supporting the Division’s commitment to high-quality education and a positive experience for all stakeholders, this role contributes to effective departmental leadership and helps strengthen organizational culture and performance.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of key human resource operations.
- Ensure HR practices, processes, and documentation meet all legal, contractual, and procedure requirements.
- Provide expert guidance to leaders and employees on collective agreements, policies, procedures, and HR programs.
- Support administrators in performance management, including coaching, improvement planning, and disciplinary processes.
- Develop labour relations strategies, implement related procedures, and contribute to collective bargaining negotiations.
- Assist with grievance handling, dispute resolution, and the promotion of constructive employee-employer relations.
- Contribute to recruitment and selection activities to support effective staffing across the organization.
- Maintain accurate and efficient HR information systems, personnel files, and required reporting.
- Coordinate staff training, professional development opportunities, and organizational learning initiatives.
- Conduct research and provide recommendations to support organizational development and continuous improvement.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff to foster strong performance and professional growth.
- Oversee leave management, return-to-work programs, and disability or Workers’ Compensation processes.
- Lead Workplace Health and Safety programs and conduct respectful workplace and other workplace investigations with professionalism and impartiality.
Requirements
Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
- A bachelor’s degree in a field related to human resource management, with 3 - 5 years of experience in human resources management within a unionized environment. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- A CPHR Designation, or equivalent, is considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated strength in customer service, with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to connect effectively at all organizational levels.
- Solid understanding of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Proven ability to ensure fiscal accountability and adherence to budget expectations.
- Experience building and sustaining positive community relationships within the Division.
- Awareness of legislative requirements and emerging developments in the education sector.
- Strong problemsolving skills with the ability to navigate complex issues and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Sound judgment and the confidence to make difficult decisions in the best interests of students.
